Here are a few of my favorite books that I use for my writings and stories.

Marine Biology

Abalone, worldwide Haliotidae (2012). The one and only complete guide to all the species of abalone by two renowned experts in the field. Great text and overview of abalone plus detailed, colorful plates and each and every species including hybrids and world size records. A must-have for the abalone lover.

Great White Sharks: The Biology of Carcharodon carcharias (1998)  is a collection of scientific papers on white sharks written for scientists by experts in the field. If you like reading scientific papers this book is an excellent resource for those increased in their ecology and evolution.

Global Perspectives on the Biology and Life History of the White Shark (2012)  is a collection of scientific papers on white sharks written for scientists by experts in the field on a wide variety of topics. This is an excellent update to 1998 book above complete with results from new electronic tagging studies. molecular tools and a section on policy and attack prevention.

The Devil’s Teeth: A True Story of Obsession and Survival Among America’s Great White Sharks Paperback by Susan Casey (2006).  A fascinating book on the Farallon Islands and the white sharks and researchers who live there. A real page-turner which covers one of the most truly remarkable places on the planet and the stunning revelations made on shark biology.

Surfing

Inside Maverick’s Portrait of a Monster Wave (2006). The definitive book on Mavericks, the world’s most popular dangerous surf spot. Great stories, excellent photos. I must have for any surfer.

Ghost Wave: The Discovery of Cortes Bank and the Biggest Wave on Earth (2011) by Chris Dixon. A fascinating book on the pursuit of big waves with a focus on Cortes Bank. A real page-turner and a great story for any surfer interested in the search for good waves and the thrill and fear of riding the largest waves n the planet.

The History of Surfing (2010) by Matt Warshaw. An excellent, well written and richly illustrated book covering surfing from its inception to modern times. Highly recommended!

The Finest Line (2015) explores the world of big-wave surfing from the best big-wave locations around the world, firsthand accounts from those who dedicate their lives to chasing and riding giant waves, and commentary about the treacherous characteristics of each location. It’s an awesome book
